Member of Commission IX DPR, Netty Prasetiyani welcomed the government’s efforts to prepare vaccinations for children aged 6-11 years. He asked the government to ensure its safety.
“The provision of vaccines to children aged 6-11 years is very crucial in the midst of easing the PPKM policy. Ensure that children’s vaccinations are carried out according to procedures and are safe,” said Netty in a written statement, Sunday (7/11).
Netty said, children are vulnerable to exposure when in public areas, such as when participating in PTM at schools, malls, and traveling with parents or other activities.
“On the other hand, children can also be a source of transmission for those around them. So prepare vaccinations for this cluster in ways that do not cause excesses, such as resistance from parents or child observers,” he said.
Netty also reminded the government to carefully consider the type of vaccine used. Then the dose and time span of injections 1 and 2 are safe for children.
“Children with comorbidities also need special attention. IDAI (Indonesian Pediatrician Association) recommends that immunizations for children with cancer in the maintenance phase, chronic or controlled autoimmune diseases can follow general immunization guidelines by consulting with the doctor in charge of the patient beforehand. ,” he said.
In addition, Netty asked the government to ensure the availability of vaccines from procurement to injection. “Make sure the vaccine stock is available or at least the government already has a procurement scheme. Likewise with the distribution and management. Do not let the vaccine expire and be wasted as happened in Kudus some time ago,” he said.
The emergence of post-immunization events, said Netty, also needs to be mitigated from the start. “We don’t want the child vaccination program to build community immunity to turn into a blunder because of the neglect of the procedure,” he said.
Regarding the time and target area, Netty reminded the government to vaccinate children after the national coverage of the first dose of vaccination exceeds 70 percent of the total targeted vaccination target.
“Also make sure that it is done after at least 60 percent of the elderly population has been vaccinated. Also do it in areas with these indicators fulfilled so that they become role models for other regions,” he said.
