FAJAR.CO.ID, MAKASSAR — Chairman of the Indonesian Chancellor’s Forum, Prof. Nurhasan, invited all campus parties in Indonesia to work together to maintain conduciveness ahead of the election events.
This is a form of response to several well-known campuses in Indonesia criticizing President Jokowi’s government.
“The campus is not a place for division, the campus should be a guardian of conduciveness and participate in providing education to the components of the nation,” said Nurhasan after reading the declaration of position at the Unhas Hotel and Convention, on Saturday (3/2/2024) at around 22.30 WITA.
That way, Nurhasan emphasized, all parties can realize and create an election atmosphere that is honest, fair, safe and peaceful.
Nurhasan said that there are more than 4 thousand campuses gathered in the Indonesian Chancellors Forum. Both public and private.
“There are more than 4,000 administrators from the state and private sector who have declared that they are administrators,” he stressed.
Previously, the academic protest movement in universities was increasingly widespread with criticism directed at President Jokowi’s government.
This initiative has reached eleven campuses in the period from January 31 to February 3.
First, on January 31 2024, the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) academic community started this movement by conveying criticism through the Bulaksumur Petition.
They, consisting of alumni, professors, lecturers and students, believe that President Jokowi has left the corridors of democracy.
Furthermore, on February 1 2024, it will be the turn of the Indonesian Islamic University (UII) in Yogyakarta to voice a similar statement, following in UGM’s footsteps.
