In Khimki, near Moscow, at the Fakel stadium, the Unified Day of Passing the GTO Standards was held. Dozens of students from the Nadezhda sports school took part in the large-scale festival. They passed the complex standards in several disciplines at once.
According to the city district administration, the event was timed to coincide with the 68th anniversary of the opening of the XVI Olympic Games, participation in which was triumphant for the Soviet team.
“It’s great that so many Khimki residents are actively involved in sports. Guys, you are all great! Good luck and success to you,” said the leader of the public support movement Yegor Chenyuk.
The GTO complex is one of the main tools in achieving the goal of attracting citizens to systematic physical education and sports. The events are part of the regional project “Sport is the norm of life”, approved by the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov. The main category of those passing the standards are eleventh graders who simply need it. For completing the complex they give an additional point when entering a university. Students with a “gold” mark are entitled to an increased scholarship.
In Khimki, special attention is paid to the patriotic education of the population. That is why the athletes were also introduced to the history of the XVI Olympic Games. Then, in 1956, the Soviet team took first place in the unofficial team competition.

In total, since the beginning of summer, the district has held over 500 historical and patriotic activities for residents.
