69 prisoners escaped from prison in Beirut on Saturday, police in the Lebanese capital said.
So far, 15 of them have been detained, four more have surrendered themselves or persuaded by relatives, but five have lost their lives when their stolen car crashed into a tree east of the city.
According to sources previously told the DPA news agency by Lebanese security services, the prisoners managed to escape from the Baabda prison remand center by breaking the cell doors and tying up the guards.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor of Auna of the Year has ordered an investigation into the incident, without ruling out the possibility that the escape took place after the agreement of the prisoners and the guards.
Police have besieged the prison area and are looking for other escapees.
