Dozens of people were detained on October 10 in the Russian Far Eastern city of Khabarovsk. This is the first time in a three-month demonstration movement that security forces have been forcibly expelling people protesting against the arrest of the detained governor, Sergei Furgal.
The detention is reported to have begun after some of the demonstrators began to pitch tents near the Khabarovsk region administration building and announced plans to spend the night there. Police demanded that the tents be removed, but then the Omani people came out of the administration building and began to detain and disperse the demonstrators.

CONTEXT
Protests in Khabarovsk began after the arrest of Governor Sergei Furgal in early July, linking his name to the murders of two businessmen in 2005 and 2006. Furgala supporters are convinced that it was a political showdown with the popular governor, who managed to defeat a representative of the ruling United Russia party.
