Dozens of outdoor pools open in New York with no capacity limits – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORKNew York City’s summer essentials are back: Dozens of outdoor pools are open across all five boroughs weeks after the beaches reopened for the season.

Five of the city’s 53 outdoor pools will be closed due to active rebuilding projects, but the others will open – a bevy of swimming options compared to the more limited (and late) reopening of public pools last summer .

Several COVID safety protocols still exist, including the requirement to wear a face mask in pool facilities, locker rooms, restrooms, and on pool decks. Masks are not required in the water.

Outdoor pool hours are 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily, with a pool cleaning break between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm Outdoor pools are open until September 12, 2021.

Only a few of the five-county clusters were opened last year due to limited resources and the continued spread of the virus long before vaccines were in circulation.

“These beautiful outdoor spaces mean a lot to New Yorkers, especially after the year we’ve all had,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said last month when announcing reopening dates. “We will continue to follow health guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety.”

The five-county outdoor pools returned on Saturday, a day after the last day of school and several weeks after the city’s eight beaches reopened on May 29. Basic COVID Precautions and Health Guide will apply everywhere.

NYC Parks introduced three new “cool pools” – the Van Cortlandt, Howard and Bushwick pools, adding to the 13 pools already treated with a new paint palette and umbrellas as part of the city’s initiative to revamp neighborhood amenities. .

“The 2021 summer swim programs are not currently held at our outdoor pools as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our ability to hire and train lifeguards,” states the NYC Parks website .

The summer swimming season ends on September 12. The city’s indoor pools remain closed, for now.
