Yogyakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Dozens of residents in the RT 56 area in RW 12 Wirobrajan Urban Village, Wirobrajan District, Kota Yogyakarta positive for corona virus (Covid-19). It is not yet known exactly why tens of residents of one village were infected with Covid-19.
There are a number of conjectures. One of them was sure that they massaged and rubbed each other until they contracted the corona virus. Deputy Mayor of Yogyakarta Heroe Poerwadi said that the Covid-19 Task Force was still investigating the source of the infection, causing 10 people to test positive.
“The implementation of health protocols is not optimal in the area. There was even an iftar event with extended families. There is also a problem of the density of residential houses in the area,” Heroe said in his statement, Monday (9/5).
“Some even had time to massage, or scrape each other because they are big family or breed,” he continued.
Heroe said, a series of cases were detected following an elderly woman in the area who was sick on April 13, 2021. Until then tested positive for Covid-19 after being taken to the hospital.
A contact tracing was then carried out. As a result, the nuclear family, including the elderly child and husband, was also infected with Covid-19. Neighbors who are relatives of the first patient and their families are also positive for Covid-19.
“Incidentally, his son is a nurse from a hospital outside the city and finally some of the other members are also positive,” explained Heroe.
“Likewise, several members of the family in front of the mother’s house who died, were also caught by Covid-19. Even by the extended family, the house was used for breaking the fast together by the extended family,” he continued.
Heroe said the RT 56 area in RW 12 Wirobrajan is a densely populated area. Most of the residents are still a large family, so the distance between houses is not too far.
Looking at the facts on the ground, Heroe thinks it is still very difficult to determine the source of the initial infection.
“In the early days of Ramadan, the big family did iftar together. But whether the mother (the patient died) was sick or not, it was not confirmed,” he said.
As of Monday afternoon (10/5), there were ten people who tested positive via the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Nine were hospitalized and one was in self-isolation.
Then there were 20 more people who tested positive for the antigen. They have already undergone the PCR test and are still waiting for the results.
“Of all these cases, to date there are four houses positive for PCR, and eleven houses positive for antigen. But once again the residents’ houses are very close to each other,” said Heroe.
The Yogyakarta City Health Office also today facilitated antigen tests for 50 people suspected of having made contact. Even so, only 39 residents participated.
“We are still working on this so that everyone can undergo an antigen test,” said Heroe.
Furthermore, mobility in the village is limited through regional quarantine. A number of activities outside the home are prohibited in order to reduce the rate of transmission.
“Ramadan worship activities in the village should also not be in the mosque, but in their respective homes. Including for the upcoming Id prayers,” Heroe concluded.
