Dozens of fines for ignoring the red cross on A15

The police handed out dozens of fines on the A15 near Rotterdam to people who ignored a red cross. This is reported by the local traffic police.

The red crosses were placed on the signs above the A15 at the Portland service area. It is not clear why. Nearly 80 people ignored the red cross and were ticketed for it, the police reported. Officers derisively reported on the traffic police’s social media channels that the motorists receive “personal fan mail” and are “lavishly rewarded for their heroic behavior”.

Ignoring a red cross can result in a fine of at least 250 euros. Last year, Rijkswaterstaat road stewards issued a fine 5824 times for ignoring a red cross.
