Dozens of farmers gathered on Drachten’s residential boulevard on Thursday evening to protest the government’s nitrogen policy. In addition to tractors, cars and trucks also took part in the protest.
The peasants moved to Drachten from different places. Activists circled around the center. The footage showed how the horn honked in the streets. Some tractors had an inverted Dutch flag.
A spokesman for the municipality explains that there has been a good consultation with farmers. “At the moment everything is under control”.
Protest
The participating farmers and sympathizers wished to demonstrate that they had not resigned themselves to the nitrogen decree.
A group of farmers is also said to be concerned about the application of PAS detectors. These are farmers who, according to the old nitrogen policy, did not need a permit if, for example, they wanted to expand with a new barn. The State Council referred this method to the trash can in 2019, as the legalization of this group is still in the works. However, RTV Oost wrote on Wednesday that high penalties are being threatened in Overijssel for several PAS reporters in the province.
