From Cansiglio to the plateau of Asiago in the end the snow announced a few days ago today, 8 December, also arrived in Veneto. A heavy snowfall hit the Cansiglio, making it difficult for motorists who got stuck and asked for help from fire fighters. From this morning it is also flocking to Gallio which is now covered by a few tens of centimeters of snow.
The storm
Snowstorm in Cansiglio and in the Treviso Pre-Alps: about forty cars got stuck under the white blanket. Among the tourists “trapped” also entire families with children, who in the afternoon of the Immaculate Conception ventured on the plain, on the Grappa It is on Monfenera despite adverse weather forecasts. Several fire brigade teams intervened to free the motorists. At about 14.50 the firefighters of Vittorio Veneto reached Fregona: 30 the cars hostage to the snow, almost all along the provincial road 422 that goes up to the Cansiglio.
On Grappa
Similar interventions were recorded on the Monte Grappa: along the provincial road 140, which leads to the top, in the early afternoon 5 cars were blocked, with 10 people on board, including three children. Also to Cavaso del Tomba in via Monfenera, 5 cars remained blocked and among the tourists who ended up in the misadventure there is also a baby of only 3 months. In both locations, volunteers from Asolo and teams of Montebelluna. The scene that presented itself to the rescuers was always the same: dozens of cars stuck in the snow, with children on board.
Rain on the plain
Snow and rain lashed the Veneto for the whole day, even if the expected winter blitz did not occur in the cities of the plains. A cold day of the Immaculate Conception, with a north wind, and even abundant snow in the high-altitude areas, from Cortina to Asiago. Open ski slopes, even on the Vicenza Plateau of the Seven Municipalities, but without attacks by skiers, given the bad weather and poor visibility on the tracks. White flakes in the mountains from 400 meters above sea level, but in some more sheltered and therefore cold valley bottoms it has snowed even at lower altitudes. Only snow mixed with rain on the plains in the Vicenza area, while in the other flat areas it was only the rain that took the stage. At the moment there are no traffic problems on roads and highways.
Even the tractors in the field
Coldiretti farmers’ tractors were also mobilized to clean the roads and to distribute salt against the danger of frost. In the Belluno area, where about 20 centimeters of snow have already fallen, agricultural vehicles are operational in the marginal areas to allow circulation even in the most internal and difficult areas. «The possibility of also using the tractors made available by the entrepreneurs of the countryside guarantees – specifies Coldiretti – the viability and avoids the risk of isolation of the houses especially in the most inaccessible inland and mountain areas, thanks to the greater timeliness of intervention. An important activity also to guarantee food supplies to animals in the stables and to deliver the milk collected daily in a situation where the sudden change in climatic conditions creates difficulties especially for farms located in rural areas in the mountains.».
