Dozens of apple varieties are presented at the Fertility Festival in Kyustendil – 2024-09-27 13:12:00

In Kyustendil, the Festival of Fertility begins, which will last three days, and the organizers are the Municipality and the Institute of Agriculture near the city.

The “Feast of Fertility” crowns the autumn in Kyustendil and declares it again as a city – “Mother of fruit growing”. The ancient autonomous Pautalian coins bear witness to this with their images, the Municipality stated.

Konstantin Irechek in “Travels in Bulgaria” – at the beginning of the 80s of the 19th century, described the Kyustendil region as follows: “…the Kyustendil field is a garden of plums, large yellow pears, voluminous juicy apples, sweet cherries and sour cherries, small yellow plums , peaches, medlars, mulberries, walnuts and many others. Beautiful vineyards can be seen on the hills, the wine here is wonderful. In the summer months, the old walnut groves, the dark green of the gardens and vineyards, and the golden fields, together with the meadows and forests on the skirts of the mountains, give the outskirts a certain southern character through the heat of the day and the loud chirping of the crickets in the starry warm nights.”

The fruit-growing tradition of the Kyustendil region has been alive for all time and passed on as experience and culture from generation to generation, from generation to generation.

This autumn festival of abundance is a legacy of the First National Fruit-Growing Contest of 1896, declared by the Municipality of Kyustendil, held under the patronage of the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture/then/, and is the first and only such festival in the country.

Artistically arranged corners with fruits and vegetables delight visitors. The Autumn Fertility Days are accompanied by a scientific session of the Institute of Agriculture, an Investment Forum, a Carnival of Fertility and attractions.

The “Fertility Festival” has a competitive nature with prizes for the best and attractive presentation of the participants, which encourages producers.

Every year, the Municipality’s partner is the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil.

With the “Fertility Festival” solemnly ends the festive cycle. Thus, after the gentle first step of spring, the fertility of summer and the blessing of autumn, the nature of the Kyustendil region surrenders to a well-deserved winter rest… and then, when the first snowflake appears, it prepares itself with new hopes in anticipation of spring, when again will rise to new life.

The celebration begins tonight with art workshops for children in Theater Park and the Golden Apples Festival for children’s ensembles, groups and performers.

On September 28 and 29, there will be the presentation of dozens of varieties of apples from the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil, culinary demonstrations with special guest chef Diko Tomchev, and the preparation of pear soup will be shown, BNR reports.

There will be fun family games with fruits and vegetables, a relaxation area, fun photos and shared moments.

Visitors to the celebration, and they are expected to be thousands from all over the country, will be able to explore the artistically arranged stands with fruits and vegetables, a street of crafts and a bazaar of artisans and farmers from the country and the region. There will also be a fertility carnival with the participation of kindergartens from the city.

“Tonight, 11 artists from Kyustendil will paint live in front of the public, and this will happen in the evening hours in the park in front of the Art Gallery,” explained Elena Dyulgerska, head of the “Culture” department in Kyustendil Municipality.
