Dozens may be dead after building collapse in China

Chinese rescue workers have rescued five people from the rubble of a building that collapsed yesterday in Changsha city. They are in hospital, but are out of danger. Dozens of people are still missing, according to authorities in the city in Hunan province.

The eight-storey building collapsed yesterday for unknown reasons. According to state television, a restaurant, hotel and apartments were located there.

No contact

The fate of 39 people is still unclear. They were in the building or nearby yesterday, but no one has been able to contact them so far, the mayor of Changsha said. No fatalities have yet been reported.
