Dozens killed by floods and landslides in the Philippines | Abroad

At least 25 people have died in the Philippines as torrential rains, landslides and floods ravaged the country. Rescuers are looking for at least 26 people who are still missing across nine provinces on Wednesday.

The Coast Guard is leading the rescue operation. A spokesman for the rescue services told local radio that most of those missing are fishermen.

More than three hundred areas have been flooded by the intense amount of rain that has hit the archipelago in recent days. It caused landslides in twenty places.

Due to the danger of those landslides and floods, more than 80,000 residents have had to leave their homes. They were collected in gymnasiums and other buildings that have now been converted into evacuation centers.

The Philippines is one of the countries most affected by climate change. Scientists warn that storms and typhoons are getting more powerful due to global warming. Last October, Tropical Storm Nalgae killed 98 people.
