The European Commission warns of a famine in Ukraine. “People in the besieged cities are exposed to apocalyptic conditions,” Crisis Management Commissioner Lenarčič told the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. “There is no food, no water, no medical care and no way out. This relentless invasion started three weeks ago, but we are already beginning to see famines set in.”
According to the European Commissioner, medical facilities have great difficulty in actually getting necessary goods. “The big problem is access. It is an obligation to provide humanitarian access without any hindrance,” Lenarčič said in the newspaper.
Brussels sends humanitarian aid to Ukraine. “But as long as there is fighting and there is no ceasefire, the people in need of life-saving aid cannot be reached.”
