Truss sees himself in the Thatcher tradition
The Tory icon, who died in 2013, plays a surprisingly large role in the current election campaign: Truss also sees himself politically in the Thatcher tradition. But her way of dressing and staging herself in photos is repeatedly compared to the “Iron Lady”. Photo collages of the two women in almost identical outfits or situations are doing the rounds on Twitter – for example both with a helmet on a battle tank or in a white blouse with a bow tie under a dark blazer. However, Truss rejected a targeted imitation in the BBC: “I’m an independent person.”
Truss also has to justify being a former member of the Liberal Democrats and voting against Brexit. The latter clearly describes the conservatives today as a mistake. “Some of the dire prophecies didn’t come true,” she said in the BBC interview. Sunak is also clearly committed to Brexit and has already announced that it intends to exploit and “unleash” a number of “Brexit options” such as reducing bureaucracy.
