Clare Wakeford has Down syndrome – and contracted the coronavirus. She spent six weeks in the hospital. Now she is healthy again.
Banstead – For six weeks, Clare Wakeford (40) fought the coronavirus in the hospital. Miraculously, the woman who has Down syndrome survived.

This time it was the nurses and doctors who clapped for a patient. Because her patient Clare won after long weeks of bitter struggle over the corona virus.
As the British newspaper “The Sun” reports, the whole family was deeply concerned that when Clare went to the hospital on March 20, she passed out shortly before.
She tested positive for the corona virus and was put in a coma. She was attached to a ventilator for two weeks. Clare was then brought out of her coma on her 40th birthday.
When her sister Lisa Scarborough (47) received the news that Clare was awake, she burst into tears: “It was such a relief!”
Clare was finally released from the hospital more than three weeks later. One of her nurses, Sasha Bethell (38), pushed her through the aisles in a wheelchair. The doctors and nurses applauded.
Sasha said Clare is absolutely fantastic. “I’ve been here for over 18 years and there’s just something about her. I’ve never come as close to a patient as she was.” According to Sasha, Clare is said to have cared more about the carers than about their health. She was the patient who stayed with the coronavirus for a long time and was discharged healthy.
Clare thanked her caregivers with heartbreaking words. For them, they’re all heroes. Her family has now published a donation page to raise money for the hospital.
Arrived at home, Clare was warmly welcomed. Now the family will celebrate their 40th birthday together.
