Dow University has developed a dog bite vaccine

KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences has developed (dog bite) dog bite vaccine “Dow Rab”.
Dow University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Saeed Qureshi inaugurated the “Dow Rib” in a simple yet solemn ceremony. The vaccine will be delivered to the desired location within forty-eight hours on a phone call. Initially, this facility has been introduced in Sindh province, which will later be spread across the country.
Dow University Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Saeed Qureshi said that after years of painstaking research and country’s regulatory steps, Dow University started the commercial production of anti-rabies vaccine in Ojha campus, its full course for Rs. Will be available.
30,000 doses of “Dow Rib” have been supplied to the distribution network, manufactured by the Dow Institute of Life Sciences at the Ojha campus from imported raw materials.
It should be remembered that Dow University had developed IVIG Immunoglobulin during the days of the Corona epidemic, with the use of which hundreds of Corona patients got a new life.
Earlier in another ceremony, a memorandum of interest was signed between Dow University and distributor network Miller & Phipps. Miller & Phipps will ensure the availability of ARV Dow Rib across Pakistan in a phased manner.
According to the data of National Institute of Health Islamabad, 2 million anti-rabies doses are required in the country. Dog bite vaccines in Pakistan depended on vaccines imported from abroad.
Even now the shortage of anti-rabies vaccine is 70%, after local production, the availability of ARV in Pakistan will be easy.
It is worth mentioning here that almost 1 million people are bitten by stray dogs in Pakistan every year, resulting in an estimated 5 to 6 thousand deaths due to rabies.
According to a report by the National Institute of Health Islamabad, Pakistan needs more than 2 million anti-rabies vaccines annually, most of which are imported from India. There is a severe shortage.
