Doutzen Kroes was completely done with the modeling world for a while. The 39-year-old Frisian model felt “lived” for years, she says in fashion magazine Vogue, which will be in stores from August 22. Kroes has recently started walking shows again.
For a long time, the top model didn’t realize that she didn’t have a say in things. “When people said that to me, I thought and answered: no, I decide everything myself, but I discovered that I was completely lived,” she says. “Everyone could get their creative juices flowing on me, photographers, stylists, make-up artists, but I wasn’t heard. I was so done with that.”
Kroes was fed up with not having a “voice”. “That was also one of the reasons for my rebellion,” she says. For example, she once spoke out about the situation in the Palestinian territories, but she had to delete that tweet. Kroes also received a lot of criticism during the corona crisis because she spoke out against vaccination. “I had to get out of that rat race for a while, all the way back to zero.”
