The filmmaker Douglas Trumbull, responsible for the special effects of several classics of science fiction cinema such as Blade Runner and 2001: A Space Odysseydied at 79, her daughter reported Tuesday.

“My father, Doug Trumbull, died last night after a great two-year battle against the cncer, a brain tumor and a stroke, ” Amy Trumbull explained on her Facebook account.
