Douglas Souza reports case of homophobia at an airport in Europe: ‘Nobody deserves it’ – Sports

Douglas Souza, pointer of Brazilian volleyball team, lived unpleasant moments during a recent trip to Europe. The player, who was accompanied by her boyfriend, said he had suffered an episode of homophobia at an airport in Italy.

“Today is one of the worst in my life. It was horrible. It’s been horrible. I’m just not really going to tell you what happened today because I’m afraid they’ll take my ticket and deport me,” said the athlete on Instagram.

Douglas Souza gained prominence on social media during the Tokyo Olympics. Oozing sympathy and good humor, the athlete constantly shared the backstage of the team in the Olympic Village. This time, the player changed his tune and used the space to vent about the case.

“Pure prejudice, homophobia, you have no idea. I’m going to dust it off, because I don’t deserve it, nobody deserves it.”

Gold medalist in Rio-2016, Douglas Souza was left out of the squad for the South American Championship by his own choice, claiming the need to dedicate himself to his personal life. Brazil became champion of the tournament unbeaten, beating Argentina in the final by 3 sets to 1.
