The result of the US presidential election scheduled for November 5, 2024 is awaited with great excitement. It is already clear that this is a historic vote. On the one hand, there is the option for another presidency of Donald Trump (78), with all the unthinkable things that would entail. Or the election of a woman to the highest political office in the United States for the first time – which would also make the husband of Kamala Harris (60) Douglas Emhoff (60) the first gentleman in the country.
Kamala is Doug Emhoff’s second wife
The former lawyer has been married to the famous politician since August 2014. Just a few weeks ago, the two celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary in a rather unromantic way on the sidelines of a conference US Democratic Party in Chicago. This was Kamala Harris’ first marriage, and Emhoff was married to film producer Kerstin Mackin (57) from 1992 to 2008. He has two grown children from his first marriage, son Cole (29) and daughter his Ella (25).
A couple was established with a lover
According to media reports, the two met on a date arranged by a friend of Emhoff’s after the two met for the first time. The engagement took place almost a year later, and the wedding bells rang a short time later. To this day, the two seem to have a very happy marriage – even though Emhoff had to pretty much give up his professional life for the sake of his wife.
From lawyer to “second gentleman”
After Kamala Harris was sworn in as the Vice President of the United States in early 2021, he gave up his previous job as a lawyer for entertainment companies to focus on his new role as “Second Gentleman”. Shortly after Harris’ swearing in, Douglas Emhoff spoke to NBC with the following words: “I’m a husband and a father first and I support her in every way possible.”
Emhoff admitted to an affair in his first marriage
When the British “Daily Mail” revealed in August 2024, just a few days before his tenth wedding anniversary with Kamala, that the lawyer had an affair with his housekeeper during his first marriage, the attorney any motion to dismiss the charges. Instead, he went on the offensive with great honesty and covered the story on CNN with the following statement: “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through difficult times because of what I did . I took responsibility, and in those years. we continued “We worked through things as a family and came out stronger from them.”
