On Saturday, October 3, the Douglas Baltic Basketball League Championship started with three games. In the tournament, which unites the best women’s teams from the Baltic States for the third year, in the first stage, the teams from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania will play only within their own countries.
The elite group tournament was opened by the visit of last season’s champions “TTT Rīga” to the 3rd place winners from Liepāja. This time the balance of power was unequal – with the aim to start in the Euroleague, the well-staffed Riga team destroyed the housewives in the second half. 101:46 (24:10, 41:28, 75:39). The winners Kitty Laksa scored 19 points (3 pp. 5/8), Karlīne Pilābere, Binta Dramē and Džesika Tomasa in 13th place.
In the opening game of the international group in Kandava, the housewives made their debut with a victory over “Jelgava” / BJSS – 58:53 (17:16, 35:28, 53:43). The winners Ilze Gotfrīda scored 15 points and won 9 balls, Laura Keistere 15, Baiba Čevere 12. Alice Karlsone from Jelgava scored 17 points and won 8 balls.
“Saldus” / Sports school in the game with the U16 national team initially gained a great advantage, which was further defended – 53:45 (18:10, 37:17, 39:30). For Saldus unit Kolīna Kārtere 10 + 12 atl., Kristiāna Kulačkovska 10, Laura Ceļapītere 10. Kate Kondratjeva scored 22 points, Elīna Briede 11.
