The American car brand Canoo that sells electric cars wanted to build at VDL Nedcar in Born, is reconsidering those plans. The Americans see too many uncertainties about production in Europe.
The company top wants to meet with VDL later this month to review the agreements. VDL Nedcar does not want to respond to this announcement by the Americans, reports 1Limburg.
CEO Tony Aquila made it clear during a telephone conversation with investors that he would rather have the cars built in his own factory in the United States than to order in a factory in Europe. He listed disadvantages, such as the effects of the corona pandemic, transport and taxes.
Hack
Also the hack which VDL Nedcar fell victim to is a matter of concern for the Americans. When classified company information and intellectual property are exposed, it affects the company’s operations, prospects and financial results.
VDL Nedcar presented Canoo last summer as the first new customer since it was announced that BMW would stops production in Born.
Canoo wanted to start building a thousand copies of their in Born at the end of next year lifestyle vehicle, a multifunctional van for private individuals. The vehicle can travel 400 kilometers on one battery charge. In 2024, production should be increased to 15,000 units.
