Doubling of the number of self-employed students in four years: “New action plan for entrepreneurial education needed”

In 2018, there were 4,301 self-employed students in Flanders. That number has grown steadily since then to 6,640. Antwerp is the leader with 2,140 student entrepreneurs, three times more than the 737 in Limburg. The figures also show that men (60 percent) more often than women (40 percent) choose student entrepreneurship.

CD&V MP Warnez sees the increase as something positive, but he also sees a number of challenges. For example, sufficient attention must be paid to entrepreneurship in education. “Schools must be supported in realizing entrepreneurship goals, in order to create enterprising schools. A new action plan is needed for entrepreneurial education,” says Warnez. According to Warnez, Minister Weyts already promised this last year, but the CD&V MP is now asking for concrete actions.
