Since last Tuesday, 623 residents with a (possible) infection have been added. Of those patients, 257 have actually been diagnosed with the virus with a test. For the others it is a suspicion; they have complaints.
“We are very concerned about the increase”, says Verenso chairman Jacqueline de Groot. The organization says it has seen an increase in the number of new infections in nursing homes for several weeks. According to De Groot, it is “essential” that much testing continues.
Testing both residents and staff in the event of outbreaks would still be difficult. “That really has to change.” As far as Verenso is concerned, “the most vulnerable” and healthcare personnel are given more explicit priority in the event of a shortage of testing capacity.
Half of the residents died
In nursing home De Omloop in Norg, Drenthe, half of the residents recently died of corona. This happened in two and a half weeks after the first infection.
The first infection in a resident was detected on September 19, after which the first resident died six days later. Twelve residents have now died. Of the other twelve, eight are still infected with the virus.
Closed
The Omloop will remain closed until there are no residents with symptoms of the corona virus, reports RTV Drenthe. Residents tested positively must remain within the walls of the nursing home and be treated there.
Yesterday it became clear that seven residents of the Present residential care center in Leerdam have died from the consequences of an infection with the corona virus. The care home has been in the nursing home since mid-September an outbreak.
