Doubles gas production to meet demand
Norwegian authorities have given the oil and gas company Neptune Energy permission to double gas production on the Gjøa field in the North Sea to meet the growing demand for energy in Europe.
– The increase in production is enough to heat 350,000 British homes per day, says CEO Odin Estensen of Neptune Energy Norway in a press release.
The increase in gas production takes place from the Duva field, a subsea installation connected to the Gjøa platform. From there, the gas is transported on to the St. Fergus gas terminal in the United Kingdom.
In March, the government decided to adjust the production permits on the Troll, Heidrun and Oseberg fields until 30 September this year. For the Equinor fields Heidrun and Oseberg, this means an increase in gas production of 30 and 15 to 20 percent from last year, according to E24.
This will help keep Norwegian gas production high also during the summer, which is normally the low season for gas exports.
