Double Vaccination Campaign Begins in Galicia: Covid, Flu, and RSV Immunization

This Monday, September 25, the double vaccination campaign begins in Galicia to protect the most vulnerable groups. In parallel, a double immunization against covid and flu is being launched in nursing homes, which affects a total of about 30,000 users.

In addition, in hospital centers the injection will be administered to babies to prevent RSV, or syncytial virus, which causes bronchitis, making Galicia the first community in Spain to do so.

Vaccine for the entire population

It will be on October 16 when immunization against covid and flu is extended to the general target population, with a novelty compared to last year. It will be administered jointly, as was already tested in the previous campaign, but this time the recommendation to get vaccinated for those under 60 years of age disappears, except in cases of pregnancy or the postpartum period.

With this, the Galician Health Service aims to immunize more than 75% of the general target population, as happened in the last campaign.

In parallel with the double vaccination, the flu vaccination is being developed, with a specific target population and with a novelty, smokers are included as a recommended group. And, as for the covid vaccine, no more doses will be administered and it will be seasonal, so immunization will only be done in these specific periods.

Regarding the injection against the syncytial virus, which affects the little ones, it will be applied to all those born from this Monday until next March 31, 2024.
