18-year-old Åskag from Eskilstunaklubben Råby-Rekarne hit with 6.60 – personal best with 15 centimeters. The margin of victory was narrow, just one centimeter to the Indian Shali Singh. Ukrainian Marija Horielova took the bronze at 6.50.
Åskag took gold in three steps earlier this week. She is the first Swede to take double gold in JVM.
Wallmark took a superior victory in the three-step competition of 16.43 meters, 38 centimeters ahead of Jamaican Jaydon Hibbert and 58 centimeters ahead of third Simon Gore, France.
– It feels incredible, JVM was the main goal this year together with the junior European Championships and it felt like I had more in my body, he says in the victory interview.
– It was a good competition, good weather and good wind and everyone jumped well. When the Jamaican jumped 16.05 and passed me, I was very tagged.
Wallmark was perhaps a little overwhelmed because his next jump was trampled, but very barely.
– I think it was very long, says the Swede who then in the fourth jump got to the gold jump.
The 19-year-old Örgryte jumper broke his previous Swedish junior record from the junior European Championships earlier this summer by four centimeters. In JEM, he jumped further than the three-step giant Christian Olsson’s 22-year-old junior record.
It could have been a third gold on Sunday because Oskar Edlund won the final in the 400 meter hurdles. However, he was washed afterwards.
