Eintracht Frankfurt had an extremely difficult time in the first round of the DFB Cup at third division 1860 Munich, many times, for example, defensive boss Hinteregger had to save. In the end, however, a storm duo made the difference in the extremely narrow 2-1 success.
Made the difference with André Silva in the narrow 2: 1 against the Munich Lions: Eintracht striker Bas Dost.

1860 coach Michael Köllner, who had played for a long time with his team for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga this summer, relied on well-known players such as striker and captain Mölders, already 35 years old, for this first tough task in the DFB Cup. Salger, who was brought from Bielefeld, was also flushed directly into the starting line-up (central defense) – just like Tallig (formerly Chemnitz).
The Frankfurt coach Adi Hütter, who recently extended his contract to 2023, relied on well-known attackers such as André Silva (permanently signed by Milan) and Dost. Of the newcomers, only Zuber (swap with Hoffenheim in connection with Gacinovic) made it into the starting line-up. The Swiss was allowed to attack on the left.
Cheeky sixties surprise the eagle-bearers
In terms of offensive, however, the Hessians were initially not visible, the Bundesliga team was more likely to be impressed by the courage of the lions. Because the third division team dared a lot, often pressed, sometimes combined nicely – and thus not only surrounded their own penalty area. Experienced Mölders missed the early 1-0 (6th minute) and was then released in front of keeper Trapp by the strong Hinteregger (14th).
Over time, the eagle-bearers gathered, but no more than long-range shots – mostly from Kohr – did not jump out. At least one of them hit the right post (18th). Only five minutes later, however, Mölders also nodded the ball in a high arc over Trapp to the aluminum (23rd). In short: A 1-0 break for Giesinger would have been deserved, especially since Hinteregger had to save several times in dire straits and Mölders shot a volley just to the left just before the break (40th).
André Silva unties the Frankfurt game knot
Even if a pattern was repeated immediately after the restart (Hinteregger ironed out in front of Mölders, who was ready to shoot, 47th), some things changed in the Frankfurt game in the second 45 minutes. The Hessians exerted more pressure, regularly settled on the sixteen sixteen, played attacks more consistently for the first time – and earned the 1-0 in minute 51: After a cross from Kohr, Dost thoughtfully crossed the goalkeeper Hiller, so André Silva only still needed to nod off into the empty gate.
The 2-0 and thus the preliminary decision followed on the foot: Kamada pushed through for André Silva, who crossed precisely into the center, where Dost ran perfectly between three opponents and completed his head at close range (56th).
The 1: 2 comes too late for the lions
Well played, but still eliminated: Sascha Mölders and TSV 1860 Munich narrowly failed at Frankfurt.

The lions, who hung their heads for a short time after the goals conceded, fought back a little afterwards, but nothing more than a connection goal by Mölders (disputed decision, 64th) and a good minor header (65th). Eintracht managed the events too well with the 2-0 in the back in this phase, let the ball run mainly quietly in their own ranks – and could have increased it to 3-0 through Kamada (71st). In the final minutes, however, tension suddenly arose: Lex took out a justified penalty against Trapp, which Steinhart safely converted to 2-1 (79th). And because André Silva missed several options for the 3: 1, there was still hope for the Giesinger – but in the end in vain.
