The New York Police Department has suspended an officer for detonating “Trump 2020” from his loudspeaker, sparking union rage over the “double standard” protecting cops who support the BLM. And what about those who kill?
The Benevolent Association of Sergeants confused department heads on Twitter about the suspension of a pro-Trump cop who used the loudspeaker in his squad car to briefly promote the president, criticizing the decision as ” useless and way above ” on Sunday.
The NYPD has a history of officers making political and substandard statements and ignoring them. Suspend, this officer is unnecessary and exaggerated. The head of the department took a knee with the demonstrators, no disciplinary measure was pronounced. What if the officer supported Biden? https://t.co/svklwHo5Ey pic.twitter.com/6TfUO397mO

As the union pointed out, NYPD department chief Terence Monahan had “took a knee“With the Black Lives Matter protesters in June, and”the NYPD has a history of agents making political and off-standards statements and ignoring it. The decision to suspend 70th arrondissement agent Arthur Becerra without pay – a decision that apparently took less than 24 hours to process – had less to do with his actions than his opinions, the union suggested.
Terence, you didn’t say anything when Captains and Chiefs took a knee with violent protesters who injured members of the NYPD. You don’t say anything to those who sing and dance in uniform. Now your little balls are in DeBlasio’s palm and you’re tweeting nonsense. Relax and take a knee! https://t.co/MHC0Hk1Bpj pic.twitter.com/kUjrq5Uu5o

Laughing at Monahan’s closeness to Democratic politicians and “violent protesters who injured NYPD membersThe SBA did a short job of his moral posture. The union has made numerous public statements in support of President Trump, accusing the Democratic Party of “to abandon » police.
How the NYPD is winding up in black communities these days (on my block): “Trump 2020. Put it on YouTube. Put it on Facebook… ”

Becerra was filmed on Saturday by two spectators repeatedly declaring ” Trump 2020On the loudspeaker of his squad car in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood. At least one of them actively instigated Becerra, responding to cop Trump’s cheerleader with ” Fuck you, fucking fascist. The officer repeated the slogan in a neutral fashion, daring the witness: “Take a picture, take a picture, take a video. Put it on YouTube, put it on Facebook. Have fun … hard, hard. »
NYPD officers are prohibited from expressing political opinions, including, but not limited to, supporting candidates, while on duty. Monahan and NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea were quick to condemn the footage when it appeared, with Shea denouncing Becerra’s behavior as ” one hundred percent unacceptable. Becerra’s swift response to the pro-Trump display, however, offers a deep and disturbing contrast to the NYPD’s response to serious crimes.

Daniel Pantaleo, the NYPD officer who strangled Eric Garner to death using a prohibited strangulation as he supposedly tried to arrest him for selling untaxed cigarettes in 2014, was not even suspended until August. 2019, when an administrative judge suggested that Pantaleo be fired for the murder. Instead, he spent five years pushing paper in the office, cutting his salary to six figures as protesters demanded he be jailed for Garner’s murder.
The unions have steadfastly sided with Pantaleo, essentially blaming Garner for his own death – even though the 49-year-old obese asthma patient visibly did not resist his arrest and (perhaps more importantly) actually did not. of untaxed cigarettes on his person when he was. killed, although he was arrested for selling them in the past. Ramsey Orta, the man who filmed Garner’s murder, then sued the city for allegedly demanding revenge on him via false accusations, wondering why Pantaleo was a free man when the person who documented the murder was locked up.

The SBA and other NYPD unions have long opposed reform efforts, saying almost any move to contain departmental excesses is an attack on police, usually by Democratic politicians, that will allow criminals to lash out in the streets.
On Tuesday, Trump demanded that Becerra be allowed to return to work, highlighting the significant rise in crime in the city since the start of 2020 – including a 279% increase in shootings that have left 53 New Yorkers with gunshot wounds this past. week only – and insisting that the NYPD be allowed to do its job.
