Last week in Israel, two pregnant women tested positive for both the coronavirus and influenza. The country is experiencing an increase in flu cases. Since September 1, more than 2,800 people have been hospitalized with flu, reported the Israeli Ministry of Health this week. To prevent a ‘twin epidemic’ – a flu epidemic in addition to the covid pandemic – the ministry is calling on people to get both a booster shot and a flu shot.
Brazil, the US, Hungary and the Philippines also recently reported various ‘flurona’ infections, as the combination of corona and influenza has quickly been christened. Some governments fear an overload of care if both viruses circulate at the same time.
