Double in 100th Test; Joe Root owns the rare achievement

Chennai: England captain Joe Root becomes the first player to score a double century in the 100th Test. Root’s advantage came in the Chennai Test against India. Root, who scored a century yesterday, became the ninth player to score a century in the 100th Test.

This was followed by Root’s double century in the 100th Test. Root completed his double century with a six off Ashwin. In 2005, Inzamamul Haque’s 184 against India in Bangalore was the highest score by a player in the 100th Test.

This is Root’s fifth double century, scoring his third consecutive century. Root, who resumed batting on the second day with 128 runs, was dismissed for 218 off 377 balls. The England captain’s innings consisted of 19 fours and two sixes.
