The Quartier Moderne designer show takes over the Ocean space from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 December 2021. Among the discoveries, Double Glazing, a duo of designers
Lthe young designers’ fair, Modern district, returns to the Espace de l’Océan from Friday December 3 to Sunday December 5, 2021. After almost two years of interruption due to Covid-19, the organizers, Anne Paillot and Marie-Barbara Moles-Pontallier, took advantage of this funny time to deepen their research. Twenty out of forty exhibitors will present their creations for the first time.
Revisited clothing
Double Glazing is one of these discoveries. Behind this name, we find the revisited clothes of Cannelle Berthelot and Maialen Arestegui. They have been friends since high school, one trained at the Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux with a design option, the other at the Beaux-Arts in Lorient, before turning to the creation of theatrical costumes and working for directors such as Abderrahmane Sissako, Aurélie Van Den Daele.
For six years, Cannelle and Maialen followed different paths but both wanted to come back to the Basque Country. Since high school, they share the same passion for creation and clothing. By pooling their skills, they launched Double Vitrage, their brand. Cinnamon and Maialen work from work or salvage clothes, but always of good quality, which they then endeavor to revisit through painting and embroidery. The result is startling. They notably gave a second life, aesthetic and poetic, to new work clothes from the 80s and 90s, acquired at an auction. They also devote their inspiration to the rebirth of clothing, male or female, found here and there. “By my job in the theater, I have the chance to discover a lot of clothes and fabrics, explains Maialen. Then we personalize each piece. “
Unique pieces
To launch Double glazing, they moved to the first floor of La Maison Zabaldu, a third place being created on the initiative of a journeyman carpenter who is setting up his workshop on the ground floor, 12 allée de Mouesca, in the company of other creators. Quartier Moderne is going to be their first show “We are just starting to market our creations. These are only unique pieces, continues Cannelle. We work a lot on the spot and we think together on how to give a second life to a work jacket, a dress or a shirt. “
Maialen benefited from his experience in the theater. “I worked with a costume designer who does a lot of recycling. I learned many techniques from her. Cannelle and Maialen also share the same desire to work with other designers. “We hope to find people in the Basque Country who make fabrics, to offer our own creations. “
We will be able to discover their creations from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 December 2021 at the Espace de l’Océan, with around forty other creators. The show is open Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entrance: 3 euros.
