sport">For 34-year-old Taaramäe, it is the second stage win in the Vuelta after a stage victory in 2011. The Estonian also won a stage in the Giro in 2016. He gives his Belgian team the second stage win in a big round this year after Taco van der Hoorn in the Giro. “This is special. I’m 34 years old and I don’t have many years left to achieve something like that,” he said.

On Sunday evening we were already talking about trying to win the stage today and possibly take the leader’s jersey.” It is the first time that Taaramäe has won the leader’s jersey in a Grand Tour. “I often dreamed of a leader’s jersey in a Grand Tour, even if it was just for a few days. In the Giro it didn’t work out in the stage that Dombrowski won. Now it has worked.”
sport">Striking: Sepp Kuss, Jumbo-Visma’s second man, had to unload on the Picon Blanco. Olympic champion Richard Carapaz (Ineos), also the number 3 in the Tour de France, also had to leave.
