Double emergency at football game
Frankfurt Galaxy reached the semi-finals of the European League of Football (ELF) playoffs after the game was abandoned. The wildcard duel with Berlin Thunder was ended on Saturday due to two medical emergencies within a minute, a good five minutes before the end; Frankfurt led 20:3 at that point.
First, an accidental collision between a Galaxy player and a Berlin supervisor behind the sidelines led to the medical team being called in, then a Thunder professional collapsed on the sidelines. According to the Berliners, both those affected were feeling better again on Sunday morning.
“There are more important things than sport – health,” said ELF Commissioner Patrick Esume after the incidents. Frankfurt will face Rhein Fire from Düsseldorf or the Vienna Vikings from Austria in the semi-finals. In the second wildcard game, Stuttgart Surge and Panthers Breslau will meet on Sunday (14.15).
