The Polish Trade and Distribution Organization informed that it analyzed in detail the increases in wholesale prices of food products, i.e. those prices at which retail chains obtain goods from producers. It has tracked the changes in costs between January 2021 and January 2022.
Taking into account the most popular products, most often placed in the basket of Poles, the organization reported that the average prices of oatmeal increased by 40 percent, vegetable oil by 60 percent, eggs by 30 percent, sugar by 25 percent, pasta by 30 percent. , pork by 20 percent, milk by 12 percent, jams by 14 percent. At that time, the price of butter increased the most, by as much as 71 percent.
According to POHiD experts, food producers supplying goods to retail chains argue that the rises in wholesale prices are primarily driven by rising production costs.
As Renata Juszkiewicz, the president of the Polish Trade and Distribution Organization, said, The price rises that store customers are currently experiencing are the result of the price pressure of the last few months. – We hear from farmers and food producers announcements of further increases, mainly caused by the increase in energy and fuel prices, as well as the prices of raw materials, fertilizers and plant protection products, feed, packaging, wages, and in some cases disruptions of global supply chains – she pointed out.
