Dossier, Mantovano summit with Panetta and Melillo: “Crack up on controls against abuse”

After the Perugia investigation into illegal access to databases, the thousands of files downloaded by the financier Striano and the alleged dossiers, the government is preparing a crackdown and greater control over access to databases. The undersecretary discussed it at a summit at Palazzo Chigi Alfredo Mantovanothe governor of Bank of Italy Fabio Panettathe anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Melillo, the heads of the Police and Financial Police and of the intelligence. Administrative and organizational processes have been identified, it is announced, with periodic checks and “adequate alerts aimed at preventing abuse”.

Undersecretary Mantovano also spoke about the need for more stringent supervision of databases and access, in front of the joint Constitutional Affairs and Justice commissions of the Chamber, where the process of the government bill on strengthening cybersecurity begins. Considering the need to defend ourselves from cyber attacks, which have grown in a “worrying” manner – 1,411 events with impacts on national entities in 2023, approximately 117 per month – and to monitor access to databases, now punished “less than theft in a supermarket” , Mantovano considers the government’s bill on strengthening national cybersecurity “crucial”. A bill that provides for “more appropriate sanctions for those who illegally access databases”.
