DOSB takes stock: Satisfied, but less broadly based | free press

Peking.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation is satisfied with the performance at the Winter Games in Beijing. “The result is good for Team D,” summed up Chef de Mission Dirk Schimmelpfennig. “It presented itself well and we caused enthusiasm in sports Germany.”

Before the last two days of competition, Germany was second in the medal table behind Norway and ahead of the USA. However, the DOSB in China will no longer be able to match the number of noble plaques at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, from where the German athletes brought home 31 medals.

The good record is mainly due to the lugers, skeleton and bobsledders, who won more than half of the medals in the Yanqing ice track. All other successes were contributed by the athletes of the German Ski Association. “Certainly we are less broadly positioned than four years ago in South Korea, where five associations were able to participate in the medal balance,” said Schimmelpfennig.
