Dortmund: New mega-construction is reminiscent of buildings in New York

Dortmund gets a new “architectural highlight”. The global IT group Materna is building its headquarters in the Westphalian metropolis.

Dortmund – With 3,200 employees worldwide, Materna, founded in 1980, is one of the leading IT groups in Germany. The headquarters is in Dortmund – so it’s no wonder that the new and rather chic corporate headquarters will be built in Phoenix West by 2024.

Dortmund: Materna builds new company headquarters in Phoenix West

Space for 1,800 jobs is to be created there alone, and the company is investing 120 million euros in the construction. In a statement, Materna describes the building on Phoenix West, developed by Gerber Architekten, as an “architectural highlight”. Some may have noticed a resemblance to the legendary Flatiron Building in New York in the building.

The Materna employees can look forward to an approximately 6,000 square meter green space inside the building complex. The large entrance hall is connected to the inner courtyard via an integrated landscape staircase.

The goal: Materna wants to continue to grow through an attractive workplace. Another 500 jobs are to be created this year, but not only in Dortmund. The IT specialist also invests in locations such as Berlin and Frankfurt.

Materna is an IT service provider for customers from corporations, medium-sized companies and public authorities. For the latter, for example, the company is developing “digital administrations”. Vacationers are likely to have come into contact with Materna products through check-in and boarding applications at airports.

While Materna is taking off on Phoenix West, another major player is saying goodbye to the former industrial area: the “Warsteiner Music Hall” as a concert hall recently announced its closure.
