Dortmund knocked out Atlético Madrid in a crazy shootout and can look forward to PSG in the semi-finals

Dortmund managed a Champions League quarter-final second leg, beating Atlético Madrid 4-2 at home to move into the top four of the tournament. Diego Simeone’s men came back from 0:2, but then they were broken by two glued goals.

It started very quickly, in the third minute Marcel Sabitzer had a chance from a small goal, but César Azpilicueta scored an excellent block. On the other side, he went alone to the goalkeeper Álvaro Morat, but he lobbed it and missed it punishably.

After an intense five-minute game, the game calmed down a bit, as expected, Atlético lay back and waited for breaks. Karim Adeyemi could have punished it in the 17th minute, but only Jan Oblak’s volley hit the center of the goal.

Borussia still couldn’t really check the Slovenian goalkeeper, but when they managed to do it, it was a goal right away. Julian Brandt headed in from a great angle at the near post and Signal Iduna Park erupted for the first time in the match.

And four minutes later it was already two goals, from a similar position Ian Matsen aimed at the back post and Dortmund progressed. The home team continued to press until the end of the first half, taking the 2:0 result into the cabins anyway with all ten.

In the 51st minute, however, the athletes reduced the score, Mats Hummels unluckily knocked the header into his own net after a corner kick. And five minutes later, Atleti could advance again, but substitute Argentinian Ángel Correa himself failed in front of the goalkeeper.

In the 64th minute, Correa already succeeded when he twice sent the ball under the crossbar of the Dortmund goal. The shootout continued on the other side, Nicolas Füllkrug made it 3:2 with a precise header. And two minutes after that, Dortmund struck for the fourth time.

Sabitzer fired from the edge of the box, Oblak stretched in vain. In the end, paradoxically, Dortmund still had a few chances, but it doesn’t have to make them regret it, because after a total win of 5:4, they advance to the semi-finals.
