Dortmund is getting closer to Bavaria

Germany – Borussia Dortmund benefited from Bayern Munich’s misstep and thanks to the 2-1 home win against VfB Stuttgart, they came within one point of the leader.

In the end, Borussia Dortmund needed a counterattack to beat third-bottom VfB Stuttgart in their own stadium. After a corner of the guests, Captain Marco Reus completed the counterattack in the 85th minute after a first save by the Stuttgart goalkeeper from close range with the winning goal.

Overall, Dortmund had shown a poor performance – as before the national team break against Ajax Amsterdam (1: 3) and Leipzig (1: 2) – and despite a lot of possession, hardly any chances to score. And after BVB luck had stood by their side – the shot by Dutchman Donyell Malen to 1-0 (56th) was slightly deflected – he gave up the lead almost immediately: only seven minutes later Stuttgart came after losing the ball Manuel Akanji to equalize.

Akanji’s mistake ultimately had no consequences for his team. It was different with Kevin Mbabu. The Swiss defender, who played in Wolfsburg’s 2: 2 against Arminia Bielefeld in the three-way defense, was responsible for the 0: 1 and later also blamed the penalty that led to the 0: 2. In the end, Wolfsburg was able to save one point, as Wout Weghorst and Lukas Nmecha equalized within 85 seconds (62nd / 63rd). At this point Mbabu was no longer on the field; he was replaced immediately before Wolfsburg’s first goal.

Due to the loss of points in Bielefeld, Wolfsburg fell back to 5th place. They were overtaken by Bayer Leverkusen, who defeated newly promoted VfL Bochum 1-0. For the Leverkusen and their Swiss coach Gerardo Seoane it was the first victory in the Bundesliga since October 3 and after four games.
