She ended the season early and flagged to retire completely.
Now Dorothea Wierer, 34, announces that she is continuing her career and aiming for the 2026 Olympics.
– It was not an easy decision, says biathlon’s biggest star.
The Italian star has wanted back and forth for several years.
She has felt ready, but at the same time attracted by the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will be held on her home ground in Antholz, Italy.
Now she has made up her mind – the investment continues.
– This means that I will continue to have to make sacrifices, but I have already started planning my training camps and put together a group of people I trust, she says.
Sawing all rumors
During the period when Wierer’s future was uncertain, a lot of different rumors and theories have flourished in social media.

Now she kills them all.
– I try to stay away from social media, but sometimes it’s impossible. A lot of people have claimed that I’m pregnant, that I don’t have it in me anymore or that I’m just doing this for the money. Some have even claimed that I’m doing this to be on TV. No, I’m doing this because I’m an athlete, she reportedly says NRK.
“Would have been sad”
Dorothea Wierer has three Olympic medals, 12 World Cup medals and 75 podium places in the World Cup on the merit list after 15 years in the world elite.
Last season was spoiled by illnesses and she chose to end it early, right after the WC in Nove Mesto.
– It would have been sad to end such a large part of my life in this way, to not be able to give 100 percent. I want to continue and compete in the Olympics in Italy, she says according to the international association IBUs website.
