Despite a 4-2 lead shortly before the end, the Bulldogs Dornbirn had to admit defeat to Vienna Capitals 4-5 after a penalty shoot-out.
In the first of two home games within 45 hours, the Bulldogs Dornbirn faced fourth-placed Vienna Capitals today. After the guests dominated the starting phase, Romig had a great chance to take the lead in the 8th minute, but failed due to Starkbaum. Subsequently, the Capitals remained the better team and came in the 14th minute through Hartl to the deserved 0: 1. The Dornbirner made life difficult for themselves in the first 20 minutes with three penalty times and so went into the first break with a narrow gap.

Dornbirn turns the game around
In the second third, Dornbirn was better at play and missed the equalizer through Yogan. Shortly afterwards, however, it was the Capitals who, through judges, increased it to 0-2 in the 32nd minute. But the Dornbirner fought their way back into the game and came shortly before the end of the third through debutant Salmela, who sunk the puck perfectly in the Kreuzeck, to 1: 2.

Turbulent final third
The last section started off perfectly for the Bulldogs. Nilsson (41st) and Yogan (42nd) turned the game around in just two minutes. The Capitals were visibly shocked and the Dornbirner pressed on the preliminary decision. In the 51st minute, the home side weakened themselves when Antonitsch had to go off the ice for 2 + 2 minutes due to a check on the head. The Bulldogs survived this difficult phase unscathed and made the supposed decision through Jevpalovs (58th) in the power play.

It went to the penalty shootout
But the Capitals came through Hartl (58th) and Wukovits (59th) with a double strike 14 seconds before the end to equalize. In extra time, the Capitals came to a new power play due to a substitution error by Dornbirn. Shortly thereafter, the overtime ended and it went into the penalty shootout. Richter and Yogan met there, while Rapuzzi, Jevpalovs, Leduch and Wukovits awarded. In Sudden Death, Archibald finally made the decision in favor of the Capitals. The Bulldogs take at least one counter after a nasty game.
