The government’s first round of labor importation program for the construction industry has awarded 20 construction contracts, involving a total of 4,680 foreign workers. Rooms, laundry rooms, pantries, medical service rooms, wireless networks, fitness rooms, basketball courts and other recreational facilities, convenience stores, vending machines, etc. Ning Hanhao said that in order to avoid affecting the community, the main contractor will arrange for imported workers to leave the camp area before the morning rush hour and go to different construction sites. Some workers will return to the dormitories in batches after dinner at the construction site or other locations. The dormitory management team and employers will also arrange off-duty activities and related transportation for workers, and travel arrangements will also be divided into separate groups and time periods.

Wong Ho Wing-sze, Principal Assistant Secretary (Works) of the Development Bureau, said that the government attaches great importance to the safety of workers in the construction industry. After arriving in Hong Kong, foreign workers must complete basic safety training (commonly known as the green card course) and assessment before they can work on construction sites. In addition, like other local workers, imported workers must comply with the requirements of dedicated work and specific duties.
