Dorival Junior Named New Coach of Brazilian National Football Team Amid World Cup Qualifying Struggles

The 61-year-old most recently coached São Paulo FC, who spread the news about Dorival Junior’s new position. Confirmation from the Brazilian association is still pending.

Dorival Junior has been in the coaching bench at many top Brazilian clubs over the last 20 years. Among other things, he led FC Santos to cup victory in 2010 with the then 18-year-old Neymar. Dorival Junior also won the cup with FC São Paulo in 2023 and with Flamengo in 2022. In the same year he also led Flamengo to success in the Copa Libertadores, the South American Champions League.

After six games in World Cup qualifying, Brazil is only in 6th place. Under Diniz there were three defeats, one draw and two wins.
