Rio de Janeiro: Dorival Jr. has been appointed as the coach of the Brazil football team. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced the decision on Thursday. Dorival, who was the coach of the Sao Paulo club, left the club on Sunday to take charge of the national team.
Interim coach Fernando Denis was sacked last Friday after Brazil’s poor performance, including in World Cup qualifying football.
The confederation announced that Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti would become Brazil coach before the Copa America, but that possibility ended when he extended his contract at Real Madrid. This is how 61-year-old Dorival was found.
Earlier, he also coached clubs like Santos, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, Palmyra and Flamengo. Brazil is sixth in Latin American World Cup qualifying football. Dorival’s first task is the Copa America tournament.
