If Christmas is boring, you can rob a bank
Perhaps Dora Heldt is the German author with the most lovable sense of bizarre situations. In any case, the beginning of her latest audiobook is again a delicious example of her talent for situation comedy and dry humor. “I’m bored,” her main character Ernst Mannsen proclaims. “I’m so bored. I could go crazy. ”For fun, his wife Gudrun replied to Ernst’s moan:“ Should we rob the bank? Like yesterday in the film. ”At this point this idea of a coup, which at this moment is of course just a crazy idea, could have died.

But Ernst Mannsen really feels very, very bored with Advent. There is nothing going on on Sylt. There are hardly any tourists right now, the island is empty and the days don’t go by, but it never gets really light. Gudrun, on the other hand, likes Christmas. She also has a lot to do, because she organizes the Christmas market – together with Hella, Minna and Dietrich. Ernst would have liked to help organize it, but he wasn’t asked. Instead, this Dietrich, the branch manager of the local bank, joins in. Which brings us back to the topic.
Dietrich, Santa Claus, has suddenly disappeared
This lockpick, which Ernst can’t stand, is suddenly nowhere to be found. It takes a few phone calls before Gudrun, Minna and Hella get the disturbing news: Dietrich, who is supposed to play Santa Claus for the children, is in the Canary Islands. And apparently he hasn’t worked in the bank for six weeks !? Women could now be indifferent to that. But there is a problem that Minna sums up in a nutshell: “Dietrich also manages our donation fund. For children’s Christmas presents. He has to at least bring us the money, otherwise we can’t buy anything. “

It doesn’t take long for the women to find out what’s going on: The fine branch manager Dietrich actually made a donation for the children in need. It goes without saying that Ernst’s hour now strikes: He immediately seizes this unique opportunity to outwit the Christmas monotony. Ernst will take care of the problem!
Ernst Mannsen has to become the Robin Hood of Sylt
Ernst wants to raise the money for the Christmas presents as quickly as possible. As Robin Hood from Sylt, so to speak. It doesn’t take long and the plan is for a pretty big coup. We are not giving too much away when we say that this coup is going a little differently than planned. And we are not exaggerating when we add that Katja Danowski, who reads the audio books of Dora Heldt’s entertaining novels, once again hits the right note between winking and suspense.
