«Dear Mr. Katsiadakis,
On behalf of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, I am writing to you to formally protest the treatment of Theodora GOUNDOURA during her individual saber quarter-final match held on July 29 at the Grand Palais. As the Head of Mission of Team Hellas and having watched the match, I am seriously concerned about the unfair conditions that affected Theodora’s performance.
Particularly:
1. Theodora was subjected to decisions that we believe were discriminatory and inconsistent with the regulations governing the sport. According to the video of the match and the opinion of the experts, the judgment of the referees was unfair under the pressure of the French agents. All this led to the exclusion of our athlete from the next round.
2. Furthermore, what we all saw during the match was that Theodora faced an environment that was not conducive to fair play but also an annoying behavior from spectators and officials.
It is vital to the integrity of all Olympic sports but above all to the well-being of the participants, that all athletes are treated fairly and with respect. I believe the Federation will take the protest seriously and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
