“Doppies campaign encourages young adults to wear earplugs with a music filter”

The Netherlands – Last Thursday, May 25, the I Love My Ears is the ‘Capslaunched a campaign to encourage young people in the 18-25 age group to wear earplugs with a music filter.

The pilot of this campaign showed that of all young people who had seen the communications (such as films, visuals, a quiz, etc.), 10% bought earplugs with a music filter compared to the group who had not seen the campaign. This is an important result because three out of four outgoing young people in this age group still do not wear earplugs with a music filter2. While wearing these earplugs prevents hearing damage and you experience the music and going out in the same way. It is therefore important to convey this message to young people.

Why earplugs with music filter
The Doppies campaign clearly lists the benefits of wearing earplugs with a music filter. Earplugs with music filter still give you clear sound and you don’t need to raise your voice to talk with friends. This is intertwined with the prevention message to keep your hearing healthy. Saskia Kloet, hearing program manager at VeiligNL: “Hearing damage is irreversible. So you can never cure it. This has a major impact on your daily life. In our opinion, protecting your hearing is therefore essential to prevent hearing damage or to prevent the initial damage from getting worse”. During an average festival, concert or club night with electrically amplified music, the average noise level is often higher than the safe level for leisure noise3.

Doppies campaign
A Doppie is the character of an earplug with a music filter and is central to this new campaign. Doppies enter into a conversation in recognizable situations for young people and remind them to wear earplugs with a music filter for an optimal music experience. The campaign started on May 25, during the festival season and peaks in August during the introduction weeks of the student associations in collaboration with the National Chamber of Associations.

A supporting campaign package has been developed through which the Doppie characters and the importance of earplugs with music filters can also be brought to the attention of organizers of concerts, events and festivals via the covenant partners.

Many earplug suppliers support the campaign and offer a discount promotion for earplugs with a music filter during the launch of the campaign.
