NEW YORK – Video posted to social media shows a food delivery driver handling food ordered by a New York City police officer, and now that driver could face charges.
In the video, the app’s food delivery man is seen by Dash when you put a note inside a Chipotle container with your hands, which contaminates the food. The note read “I hope it … tastes good”, giving the impression that the food could have been altered in other ways as well.
Police said the incident occurred between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm on Monday. The food was taken to the officer at Barracks 61 in Brooklyn and he threw it in the trash.
The video was posted on Facebook by a user named So Certified. In the comments section, he claimed to have been the one who put the note on the food and stated: “This is a public announcement from Facebook, I don’t do that with people’s food just like that … this was personal. We are at war” .
In response to the incident, by Dash said in a statement to our sister chain NBC New York: “This behavior is absolutely unacceptable and has no place in our community. We take the trust and respect of merchants, customers and drivers very seriously. We have disabled the driver and communicated with the customer involved.”
Chipotle said in a statement that the driver’s actions were “unforgivable” and they have ensured that the delivery partner deactivated the account.
Police are now looking for the driver. If they can locate you, they could arrest you and charge you with reckless endangering, which is a serious crime.
